Statistics Canada has released its latest report on the most popular names for newborns, showing consistent leadership of certain choices in both boys' and girls' name rankings.
Top names maintain their positions
According to 2024 data, Olivia continues to hold the top spot among girls' names for the ninth year in a row. Parents and guardians chose this name for 1,639 newborn girls. Notably, this name has been in the top ten most popular names since 2000.
Among boys' names, Noah remains the clear favorite, leading the rankings for the fourth consecutive year. In 2024, 2,115 boys received this name. According to statistics, Noah has been in the top 10 since 2005.

The complete ranking of girls' names in order of popularity includes: Olivia (1,639), Charlotte (1,528), Emma (1,358), Amelia (1,123), Sophia (1,086), Sofia (921), Mia (905), Chloe (868), Lily (794), and Ava (782).
The top 10 boys' names are as follows: Noah (2,115), Liam (1,694), Theodore (1,429), Leo (1,410), William (1,367), Oliver (1,244), Lucas (1,183), James (1,131), Benjamin (1,090), and Nathan (1,061).
Popularity statistics
The study shows impressive statistics: since 2020, over 20,000 babies have been given one of the two most popular names — Noah or Olivia.
Changes in the rankings
Compared to 2023, the overall composition of the top 10 remained virtually unchanged. In the boys' rankings, there were only two shifts: James took Thomas's place, while Thomas pushed Jack out of the top ten.
The girls' rankings also saw minimal changes: Mila and Alice gave up their positions to Lily and Ava.
