Canada tightens selection in Express Entry for candidates with provincial nomination
The minimum passing score has increased compared to the previous round.
On August 18, 2025, the Canadian government conducted a new Express Entry draw targeting candidates with provincial nominations. As a result, 192 candidates received invitations to apply for permanent residency.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this draw was 800. In comparison, the previous draw on August 6 had a cut-off score of 739 and invited 225 people. This indicates stricter requirements and fewer invitations in the current draw.
It's important to note that candidates with provincial nominations automatically receive an additional 600 CRS points. This means that in this draw, candidates only needed to score 200 points from core factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and adaptability to Canada.

Unlike the early August draw with more invitations and a lower cut-off score, these new results may indicate adjustments to immigration quotas or current changes in Canada's immigration plans.
How provincial immigration programs work
Canadian provinces have the right to select candidates who meet their economic and demographic priorities. To receive a nomination, you need to:
- qualify for one of the federal immigration programs;
- create a profile in the Express Entry system;
- receive a provincial nomination, which adds 600 CRS points and significantly increases your chances of an invitation.
