Additional immigration quotas will help address workforce shortages, especially in healthcare, education, and construction.

The government of New Brunswick has reached an agreement with the federal government to increase its immigration quota. In 2025, the province will be able to nominate 4,250 people for permanent resident status — 1,500 more than previously planned.

Immigration Minister Arlene Dunn announced that all additional spots will be allocated to the provincial immigration program. Priority will be given to candidates in healthcare, education, and construction fields, though other sectors will also receive support where possible.

However, participation in the program will be limited for certain professions. Those interested in applying are advised to keep an eye on official announcements.

As part of the agreement, New Brunswick has also agreed to welcome 400 asylum seekers already in Canada over the next two years. Relocation will be voluntary. The federal government will provide over $14.1 million CAD through the Interim Housing Assistance Program to support these newcomers. This funding will go towards temporary housing, settlement services, and employment assistance.

"We are proud to support New Brunswick in attracting newcomers who will help meet labor market needs and strengthen local communities," said federal Immigration Minister Sean Fraser.

Provincial authorities are already planning meetings with asylum seekers who have expressed interest in relocating. Those who decide to settle in New Brunswick will receive support from local settlement agencies, including help with housing and entering the job market.
