British Columbia invited candidates who make the maximum contribution to the economy
Those who are already working and earning at a high level were given priority.
On May 8, 2025, the province of British Columbia held a new selection round under its program for specialists in various fields. This is the first selection in this category since the federal government reduced the province's nomination quota by almost half — from 8,000 to 4,000 spots.
This time, 94 candidates whose applications met the province's updated priorities received invitations. They were all selected based on one of the following criteria:
- 47 candidates — working full-time in British Columbia, earning at least $105 CAD per hour, with a job offer in a TEER 0 or 1 occupation according to the NOC classification;
- 47 candidates — scoring at least 150 points in the scoring system.
The selection in this category covers the following streams:
- Skilled Worker;
- Health Authority;
- Tech professionals;
- Construction industry specialists;
- Early childhood educators;
- Veterinarians or veterinary technicians.
In light of reduced quotas and program reorientation, the province has moved away from large-scale general and priority selections. Instead, British Columbia's provincial immigration program now focuses on applicants who can create significant economic impact and are already contributing to the region's economy.
