University Canada West: top business programs and MBA degree

Programs and admission requirements from Canada's leading business school, offering advantages for applicants with science or technical degrees.

University Canada West (UCW) is a young private university in Canada, founded in 2004. It specializes in business and management. The university is growing rapidly, has connections in Canadian business circles, and its professors have real professional experience that they eagerly share with ambitious students. You can enroll four times a year: in January, April, July, and October.

Unlike many other educational institutions, this university doesn't offer a wide range of programs, as UCW follows a narrow specialization. They focus on preparing specialists in business and commerce, and for this purpose, they have developed 7 programs, including preparatory courses.

Undergraduate and specialist programs:

  • Bachelor of Commerce;
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Communications;
  • Associate of Arts.

Graduate programs:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA);
  • MBA-ACCA Pathway (MBA degree with finance specialist qualification).

Preparatory programs:

  • MBA Foundation;
  • University Access Program (language course).

Four programs (Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication, Master of Business Administration, and MBA Foundation) have online versions.

University Canada West has two campuses located in Vancouver, one of Canada's largest cities, which has repeatedly been recognized as the "best city on Earth." Over 11,000 students from 110 countries study here annually.

UCW has earned a solid reputation over the years of productive work. The university has a 5-star rating from QS, is included in the annual ranking of the best Canadian online MBA programs by CourseCompare, and as of 2025, the student acceptance rate is 80%, making the university quite accessible for admission. 95% of MBA program graduates find employment within a year after graduation.

Moreover, those who obtain an MBA degree from UCW can find work in Canada, as University Canada West graduates are eligible for a Postgraduate Work Permit for up to 3 years for the MBA program. Thus, studying at this university opens up good opportunities for immigration to Canada through education.

Admission to the MBA program

The requirements for international students applying to the MBA program at University Canada West are similar to those at other universities offering this degree. Some of the main requirements are:

  • An average IELTS score of 6.5 or completion of a language program at UCW or a partner institution (for example, at the Canadian English language school ILAC through the University Pathway program, after which no language test is required);
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.0 (on a 4.33 scale) from a previously earned bachelor's degree or completion of the UCW MBA Foundation program with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The university has quite strict selection criteria for its MBA degree programs, as they require a foundation of knowledge in business and management. Therefore, the university has developed a preparatory MBA Foundation course specifically for candidates who do not have prior education or experience in this field.

MBA Foundation preparatory course

In the MBA Foundation preparatory course, students study three modules.

  • Introduction to Business and Business Documentation. Students learn how to create business documents and deliver presentations. They study how to analyze context, audience, purpose, and genre, as well as integrate appropriate media for effective communication. The course covers research and writing of business correspondence, reports, proposals, project plans, and technical descriptions, as well as preparing and delivering professional presentations. The course concludes with a group project applying the knowledge and skills gained.
  • Quantitative Thinking and Analysis. Students beginning a master's program often need to refresh basic quantitative skills such as algebra and statistics. This course covers tools and methods for using quantitative information in business decisions. Students learn critical thinking in research planning, data collection, using statistical tools, and interpreting results, as well as practice communication skills related to data analysis. These statistical skills are essential for various business applications.
  • Business Economics. This course helps business students grasp key economic tools for understanding modern business practices. They study micro and macroeconomics, developing their analytical skills through project-based learning. Topics include the interaction of economic agents, concepts of national income, economic growth, trade, and other aspects of macroeconomics.

To continue in the MBA program, students in the preparatory course must achieve a minimum CGPA of B (GPA 3.0). Students who successfully complete the MBA Foundation program can enroll in the main MBA program.
