Seneca Polytechnic: studying at one of the best universities in Canada
Life in Toronto offers world-class education, plenty of hands-on experience, and excellent job prospects at an affordable price.
Enrolling in a Canadian college is an excellent choice for those looking to build a successful future. Education in Canada is rightfully considered one of the best in the world and opens up extensive career opportunities. Moreover, studying at a college is significantly cheaper than at a university.
College programs are diverse and typically offer courses ranging from 1 to 3 years, during which you can gain a profession that's in high demand in the job market.
Immigrant.Today proudly partners with many Canadian educational institutions. Today, we want to tell you about the opportunities for studying at Seneca Polytechnic.
Seneca Polytechnic
Seneca is a public, dynamically developing college founded in 1967. The institution's programs are career-oriented, and the faculty is known for their high qualifications and dedication. Thanks to these factors, Seneca College students become recognized professionals worldwide.
The college is located in Toronto — Canada's main metropolis, and offers students programs in 13 fields, with the main goal of providing future graduates with professions that allow them to easily find work after graduation. In total, about 90,000 people study at this college, including 11,500 international students from more than 150 countries.
Seneca College is rightfully considered one of the best in Canada. In 2020, Maclean's magazine ranked it first among Canadian colleges, while Globe and Mail ranked it fourth. The Canadian University Application Centre (CUAC) ranked the college second on the list of Canada's best higher education institutions, right after the prestigious University of Toronto.
Polytechnic Focus — Seneca College's Asset
In 2023, Seneca College rebranded: the former name Seneca College became Seneca Polytechnic.
This change is linked to the development of a new university strategy that focuses mainly on providing students with a polytechnic approach — one that combines the best educational practices applicable in colleges and universities, and helps students develop their career opportunities even during their studies. Thus, adding Polytechnic to the name emphasizes the comprehensive and unique approach to higher education at the college.
Seneca notes that it didn't become polytechnic, but always was before. The polytechnic direction is not new for the college, as more than 20 years ago, Seneca College actively participated in creating the Association of Canadian Polytechnic Institutions, which today includes 13 educational institutions, including Seneca. Polytechnic institutions offer advanced technical education based on practical training and quick response to new labor market and industry needs.
All Seneca Polytechnic study programs involve developing practical skills and competencies and gaining real experience during studies. As a result of this approach, college graduates have several advantages in the job market, as they leave the institution as highly qualified specialists ready to immediately apply their skills in the workplace.

Almost 77% of college graduates find employment within six months after completing their studies.
Cost of Study and Living

Seneca Polytechnic is not the cheapest option for education in Canada, but the prices are still reasonable. The cost of a year of study in 2025 starts from $14,877 CAD and goes up to $25,000 CAD for most programs. The cost may vary depending on the specifics of the program.
To understand how much a year of college education and living in Canada would cost, let's look at the "Accounting and Finance" program as an example. This program lasts 3 years, and upon completion, students receive an Ontario College Advanced Diploma. The cost of this program is 15,500 CAD for the first year of study.
| Tuition and Study Materials | |
| Annual tuition fee | $15,500 CAD |
| Annual health insurance | $850 CAD |
| Textbooks and supplies | $1,500 CAD |
| Additional fees | $500 CAD |
| Accommodation | |
| On-campus residence | $9,500 CAD |

| Meal plan | $1,600 — $2,900 CAD |

For this amount, students receive a world-class education at a significantly lower cost than in other English-speaking countries. It's also worth noting that students can work part-time during their studies. Seneca College offers on-campus job opportunities, and since it's located in Toronto, finding other part-time work shouldn't be difficult.
From October 2025, the minimum wage for most workers in Ontario will be $17.60 CAD per hour. Working the maximum allowed 24 hours per week, students can earn about $1,690 CAD per month.
Admission Requirements
To enroll at Seneca Polytechnic, applicants must provide a high school diploma or a higher education degree, depending on the program.
There are no entrance exams, but proof of English proficiency is required, with a minimum IELTS score of 6 or equivalent in other language tests (CAEL, Cambridge English Exams, Duolingo, IELTS, PTE, TOEFL).
If applicants can't or don't want to take a language test, Seneca College also accepts certificates from preparatory language courses offered by partner educational organizations, such as the University Pathway program from ILAC Canadian Academy. By enrolling in this preparatory program, applicants receive a conditional acceptance letter from Seneca without taking other language tests.
Why Seneca Polytechnic?

Besides being one of the best colleges in Canada and offering numerous programs, Seneca's location is a major advantage. Students get to live in the country's main metropolis, where they can easily find jobs, entertainment, and make new friends.
In addition to studying, Seneca Polytechnic offers access to gym facilities and sports clubs.
The college residences are very comfortable. Before moving in, students are asked to fill out a questionnaire to match them with the most suitable roommate. Students can even communicate with their potential roommate in advance to see if they'll be comfortable sharing a space.
