Russia responded harsh to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister

The confrontation between the Canadian Foreign Ministry and the Russian representative broke out again

In a recent statement, Mélanie Joly, who has been the head of the Foreign Ministry since October 2021, said that regime change in Russia is indeed the goal of sanctions.

"We can see how much we are isolating the Russian regime right now: economically, politically and diplomatically... The goal is certainly to weaken Russia's ability to mount very sophisticated attacks against Ukraine," the foreign minister added.

"We’re able to see how much we’re isolating the Russian regime right now — because we need to do so economically, politically and diplomatically. The goal is definitely to do that, is to weaken Russia’s ability to launch very difficult attacks against Ukraine," she said.

And then she emphasized the most important thing: "I always make a difference between the regime and the people of a given country, which is fundamental."

Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov called Joly’s comments a Freudian slip of the tongue. "What she or other decision-makers in Ottawa don’t want to recognize is that the current Russian policy is supported by the ultimate majority of the nation,” he said in a statement.
