In 2023 they promise to issue passports without delay

Residents of Canada, who faced long lines to obtain a passport, resented the lines.

Last year the passport program came under a lot of pressure. The problems that arose were related to COVID-19 and the circumstances resulting from the pandemic. Therefore, it was necessary to wait in a long line to get a passport. Consequently, people were dissatisfied.

Over the past 10 months, work has been underway to improve the service so that Canadians have access to timely and efficient passport services. So a special website was created to track progress and performance.

Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Karina Gould said that the issuance and delivery of passports have returned to the original processing speed and the backlog has almost completely cleared.

According to state regulations, it takes 10 days to process passport applications and personal data. Another 20 days are required for delivery by mail.

Processing and delivery times have been reduced due to several factors:

  • recruiting additional employees to the department;
  • overtime work with extra pay;
  • creating a specific and clear timeline for eliminating the backlog;
  • re-evaluation of existing programs.

The application processing efficiency is 95% and the delivery efficiency is 98%.
