Canadian province needs agricultural workers
The agri-food industry has become a major economic sector in the region.
Alberta is working with the federal government to invest $2.5 million CAD in agriculture. The province is going to help companies hire and retain employees in this sector.
The money will go to Ag for Life, a charitable organization that has been educating Alberta residents about agriculture since 2011. The organization works with a variety of businesses to create up-to-date education programs that make people aware of the important role of agriculture in the economy and receive quality training in this field.
Federal Minister of Employment Carla Qualtrough believes that the country needs more skilled employees. That is why the government is taking various measures and investing in projects to create good conditions for hiring workers.
Companies in Alberta's agri-food industry can receive grants of up to $25,000 CAD to train employees. Grants will also be given to advertising companies to improve local awareness of career and job opportunities in agriculture.
The agri-food industry and agriculture are major drivers of Alberta's economic growth. In 2021, the province's food production surpassed the oil and coal industries. It is also a major area of employment in the region, with 58,300 Alberta residents and 4,400 foreign workers working in agriculture last year.
