Canada's best-paying occupations and other news of the week

Canada

The most important events of the last week of October.

The country again raised the issue of breaking ties with the monarchy. The deputies of the province of Quebec demanded this. In Quebec, the officials of two parties refused the oath to King Charles III. But abandoning the monarchy is unlikely, as it will require unanimous approval from all provinces, the House of Commons, and the Senate, while the idea already has many opponents, including the Canadian Prime Minister.

The government took an important step toward combating violence. A ban on the purchase, sale, transfer, and import of handguns came into force. These are the most stringent gun control measures in the last 40 years. Now a bill is being developed in Canada to introduce a complete moratorium on revolvers and pistols and other measures to control the circulation of weapons are being discussed.

Wages and cost of living

The Bank of Canada raised the key interest rate for the sixth time this year. It has grown by 50 points and now stands at 3.75%. Thus, the Bank is trying to contain inflation, which is twice the target. In the long run, this should lower the cost of living, but right now, the rate hike is very painful for both companies and consumers.

Inflation is easier to deal with if you have a high wage. The Indeed employment portal published a list of the highest-paying jobs in Canada in 2022. The wages of these specialists reach up to $350,000 CAD per year. The list includes mainly healthcare and IT specialists. But there is also a list of occupations that can be obtained without education and experience.

The province of Ontario will temporarily register foreign-educated nurses, so they can work while obtaining their licenses. This will help thousands of professionals to get to work. In the future, the province will also limit the time to make licensing decisions and prohibit Canadian work experience from being required for a license.

Moving to Canada

Canada is a great travel destination. The province of Alberta is one of the top places to visit in 2023 according to the popular National Geographic magazine. The editors noted Banff National Park, the Athabasca Glacier, the prairies, the cities of Calgary and Edmonton, and indigenous areas in the region.

A survey about what locals think about immigrants and refugees was held in Canada. It turned out that Canadians are more loyal to newcomers than ever. More than 80% of those surveyed agreed that immigration is important for economic development and population growth. In addition, a growing number of people believe that Canada should be open to all nations and cultures.

The distribution of invitations under the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program ended. 23,100 permanent residents and citizens of Canada who want to bring their relatives to the country and applied back in 2020 were randomly selected. But in the end, only 15,000 of them will become sponsors. In total, there were more than 180,000 people in the pool of candidates.

Canada has great plans for more than just accepting immigrants. Hundreds of thousands of people receive Canadian citizenship. Until March 31, 2023, the country intends to approve 300,000 citizenship applications. This year, 116,000 people have already become citizens, so the goal will likely be met.

Immigration draws

Let's move on to the immigration draws. This time, Canada invited 5,392 candidates in several draws.

On October 25, Ontario held several draws. 1 invitation was sent to skilled refugees from the Foreign Worker stream, 535 invitations to Master graduates, and 106 invitations to Ph.D. graduates. Before this, the province hadn't held draws for more than a month.

The next day, on October 26, there was an Express Entry draw in which 4,750 candidates were selected. The passing score dropped again but still remains higher than it was before the pandemic.
