Prince Charles and his wife will spend three days in Canada
The tour is timed to coincide with the British Queen's platinum anniversary.
The prince will visit Canada for the 19th time and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, for the 5th time. The last time they were in Canada was in 2017, for the 150th anniversary celebration of Confederation.
The royal tour is scheduled for May 17, 18 and 19. Prince Charles and his wife will visit three Canadian provinces.
On May 17, the Prince will give a speech in St. John's, Province Newfoundland and Labrador. Charles and Camilla will visit Government House, the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor (the representative of the monarchy and the federal government in the province). There they will meet with leaders of Indigenous peoples, after which the royal couple will visit the village of Quidi Vidi, a tourist center that sells many works of art and handmade souvenirs, and brews beer from water that has been part of an iceberg for 20,000 years.
Charles and Camille will spend May 18 in Ottawa, Canada's capital city. In the morning they will visit the National War Memorial, then the Orthodox Church, a school in Ottawa, and meet with the local Ukrainian community. In the afternoon, the royal couple will watch a musical parade of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, of which the Prince has been named honorary commissioner since 2012. Afterwards, Charles and Camilla will take part in a roundtable discussion on climate change, and in the evening, together with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will go to a concert at the Governor General's Residence to celebrate with Canadians the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II.
On May 19, the royal couple will visit Yellowknife, capital of the Northwest Territories, and Detta, a Dene Indian community. Charles will meet with the Canadian Rangers, who want to appoint him an honorary member of their organization, and Camilla will visit a shelter for women and children affected by domestic violence. The royal couple will then meet with local food producers, watch Inuit sporting events and a traditional crafts exhibition, and attend the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Queen's jubilee before departing.
