The Gretna-Rhineland-Altona-Plum-Coulee region, home to about 11,500 people, is located near the U.S. border, 100 km southwest of Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba.
Rhineland was originally a rural municipality. In 2015, it was merged with the municipalities of Gretna and Plum Coulee. Now the municipality is considered one region, which is called Gretna-Rhineland-Altona-Plum-Coulee, or Altona/Rhineland in short, as it also surrounds the town of Altona.
Altona/Rhineland is participating in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot because it needs an influx of foreign skilled workers. You can read the requirements for immigration to Altona/Rhineland in our article.
