How to extend a tourist visa in Canada
If you're in Canada and your visa is about to expire, you can apply to extend your stay.
Did you get a tourist visa to Canada but didn't have enough time to see all the sightseeings? Or do you want to spend more time with family you came to visit?
A visitor visa is issued for 6 months and allows for leisure, family visits, and travel, but prohibits study and work. Let's look at how to extend your visa while in Canada.
Extending Your Stay in Canada
If your Canadian visitor visa is still valid, you can apply for a visitor record to extend your stay. You must apply at least 30 days before your current visa expires. Your initial temporary visitor status remains under the same conditions until your new application is processed and you're notified of the decision.
If your Canadian visa has been expired and you're still in Canada, you've committed an offense under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and may be deported. In this case, you can't apply for an extension but can apply for status restoration.
Each family member (spouse and children) in Canada on a valid visitor visa who also wants to stay longer must get permission. If applying together, each person needs to submit a separate application form, document package, and pay the fees.
