Canada sent 30,000 invitations under the family sponsorship programme

The lucky ones will be able to move their relatives to Canada.

From September 23 to October 4, 2021, Immigration Canada sent out invitations to potential sponsors who participated in the family reunification program. It allows Canadian citizens and residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to move. A record 30,000 applications were selected this year, but only those who applied in 2020 could participate.

How to check if you were invited or not:

  • check the email you specified in the application, including your spam folder;
  • check your mailbox, because if the Department of Immigration failed to send you an invitation by email, they will send you a paper invitation;
  • use online portal to check the invitation by confirmation number.

If you received an invitation, you must send your application for permanent residence to the Ministry of Immigration within 60 days. If you are sponsoring relatives to move to Quebec, you must send an application to the provincial government.

If you are unlucky this time, you may want to consider getting a supervisa, which entitles parents and grandparents to enter Canada multiple times within 10 years and stay in the country continuously for up to 2 years. We also recommend staying tuned to apply for sponsorship next year.
