New occupations that make it easier to immigrate to Canada

One province has added a number of occupations to the list of in-demand occupations.

The province of Nova Scotia has expanded the list of occupations whose members can immigrate by stream for in-demand professionals. Catering workers can now apply for permanent residency. The reason for the changes is the pandemic, which has had a negative impact on the restaurant business.

In order to immigrate through the in-demand stream, the candidate must receive an offer of employment in the province in one of the eligible occupations. The list includes low-skilled and unskilled occupations.

Following the changes adopted, the list added:

Employers can hire members of these occupations without labour market impact assessment. In other words, companies will not have to prove that they could not find suitable candidates among Canadian citizens and residents, nor will they have to pay a fee for hiring a foreign worker.

On June 1, Nova Scotia's population reached a record high of 992,000 people. This is attributed to an increase in immigration both from other parts of Canada and from abroad.
