Vaccinated people face another dangerous side effect

Two vaccines approved in Canada are contraindicated in some people.

Vaccination in Canada is progressing very well, and the country is even leading in the world. However, new reports of vaccine-related side effects are emerging. In addition to the long-known cases of thrombosis from AstraZeneca, there have recently been cases of myocarditis following Pfizer and Moderna.

Health Canada has stated another undesirable effect that may be seen in some people who have received a dose of AstraZeneca or COVISHIELD — increased capillary permeability syndrome, also called capillary leakage syndrome or Clarkson's disease.

This rare but dangerous condition is characterized by blood plasma leaking from capillaries to other tissues, leading to swelling, sudden weight gain, blood clotting and low blood pressure. The European Medicines Agency has reported 6 cases of this side effect among the 78 million people vaccinated with AstraZeneca. In Canada, 1 case has been reported.

The European Medicines Agency, like Health Canada, strongly advises against giving the AstraZeneca and COVISHIELD vaccine to people who have or have had Clarkson's disease. DHS has updated the vaccine labels to add information about possible side effects.
