More job opportunities for young people in Quebec

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on all Canadians, but especially on young Canadians.

The Government of Canada continues to invest in combating the impact of the pandemic. This time, support will go to young people, and with it the opportunities they need to build long and successful careers. In response to the provinces' tougher economic climate, the government is giving employers the opportunity to hire youth for permanent or part-time work and beyond the summer months until February 2022.

Treasury president and Quebec MP Jean-Yves Duclos has announced that thousands of summer jobs in Canada will now be available for young people. They are all posted on the job search section of Canada's official website. More than 2,000 job opportunities include quality jobs in the restaurant, retail and hospitality sectors. Most of them offer wages above the current minimum wage. This year's record number of job opportunities will help young Canadians discover new careers, gain meaningful experience and earn extra money.

"Over the past decade, many young Canadians have found themselves unemployed or underemployed. Many have also been affected by the economic impact of the pandemic. The summer employment programme will enable more young people in Quebec to find jobs this summer," said Jean-Yves Duclos.

As part of the budget for 2021, the government has allocated an additional CAD $5.7 billion over the next five years to help young Canadians complete their education, learn new skills and access more jobs. This is on top of the $7.4 billion CAD already invested to support young Canadians during the pandemic.
