Belarus closes embassy in Canada

Some services will be unavailable in a week.

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Ottawa has announced that it will close from September 1, 2021 in accordance with the decree of President Alexander Lukashenko, which came into force on May 22. Provision of some services will be terminated even earlier.

From June 1, 2021 the embassy will cease to issue permanent residence outside of Belarus and documents related to citizenship.

July 10, 2021 a number of other services will become unavailable:

  • issuance or exchange of a passport for permanent residence outside Belarus;
  • exchange and renewal of the Belarusian passport;
  • processing a certificate of return;
  • reclamation of documents;
  • notary services;
  • Consular registration and de-registration;
  • determination of belonging to the citizenship of Belarus;
  • processing of entry visas.

Due to the closure of the Embassy until June 4 priority will be given to citizens who need to obtain or exchange a passport. there will be personal appointments for any consular matters.

Belarusian citizens living in Canada are advised to apply to the Consulate General in New York in the future. Belarusian nationals with consular registration will be transferred there from September 1, unless they do not send to the Embassy application for registration at a consulate located in another country by July 1.
