Workers in which industries will soon receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Ontario

A complete list of occupations that are eligible for early vaccination.

Doug Ford announced at a press conference Tuesday that all workers in the restaurant industry will soon be eligible for the vaccine. The new group joins an already existing list of "essential first-line workers" who will be eligible for vaccination in Phase 2, which is scheduled to begin in April.

Ford says they are also considering including taxi drivers on this list.

What is the complete list of workers who can receive the vaccine in Phase II?

According to the Ontario government, workers who cannot do their jobs remotely will be able to get the vaccine at Stage 2.

These workers include:

  1. Primary/secondary school staff and bus drivers who drive students.
  2. Workers responding to critical events (e.g. police, fire service, compliance, funerals, special constables).
  3. Childcare workers.
  4. Licensed Admissions Workers.
  5. Food industry workers.
  6. Agriculture and agricultural workers.
  7. High-risk retail employees (grocery stores and pharmacies).
  8. The rest of the workers are in production.
  9. Social workers (including youth justice)
  10. Courts and justice system personnel (including parole).
  11. Low-risk retail employees (wholesalers, general merchandise).
  12. Transport, storage and distribution.
  13. Energy, telecommunications, water supply and wastewater disposal.
  14. Financial Services.
  15. Waste Management.
  16. Miners, oil and gas workers.
  17. On top of that, seniors over 60, people with special illnesses and people living in hot spots will also be eligible at this stage.

When will the vaccination become available to young people?

If you are not on the Essential Worker List or meet any other conditions, you will have to wait a little longer to get the vaccine. The rest of the population will be able to get vaccinated at Stage 3, which is currently scheduled to start in July.
